Perriello appears on screen, saying, “Tom Perriello here and I can save you big money on things you buy everyday. Save 23% on groceries, 23% on gas, 23% on gas, 23% on clothes, hunting gear, even houses and cars. How do i do it? I don’t support the 23% federal sales tax backed by my opponent Virgil Goode. His plan would add a 23% tax on almost everything you buy.“
What are the facts? Perriello implies Goode wants add an additional tax on top of what you already pay. That’s not true.
According to Goode’s campaign website, he’s a sponsor of legislation creating a Fair Tax. Basically it’s a national sales tax that would do away with federal income taxes. The national sales tax would be 23% on everything you buy, but Goode also proposes giving every American a montly prebate of $180.
There is much debate as to whether the Fair Tax is actually more fair and will really lower your taxes. However, the nonprofit group http://www.factcheck.org has done an analysis that finds that those making between $15,000 and $200,000 a year will pay more in taxes under the plan.
That means those who would benefit from the Fair Tax are the lowest and highest income earners, not the middle class.

This was a good attempt to shed light on the FairTax by the news station. Unfortunately, they missed the mark, and Goode may have as well.
If Goode’s website claimed every family would receive $180/month to help exempt people from taxation up to the poverty level (something FairTaxers call a “prebate”), he was both right and wrong. According to the language of the bill (H.R.25, S.1025), the “prebate” differs based upon family size. According to the FairTax.org website itself, the monthly “prebate” for a single person living alone in 2008 would have been $199. For a family of 4 (the average family size in the USA), the monthly “prebate” would have been $537. The “prebate” is not a flat dollar amount; if it were, the “prebate” would be virtually useless.
Additionally, the news utilized FactCheck.org as their source of information. While FactCheck.org has some good information on some subjects, they were grossly negligent in their coverage of the FairTax during Mike Huckabee’s campaign. FactCheck ignored tremendous amounts of research in forming their opinion, and they even refused to meet with FairTax representatives to address the FactCheck claims. In addition, FactCheck did not allow the FairTax organization to post a response on their website.
In response to FactCheck’s bias and determined slander of the FairTax, FairTax.org published their own response and posted it on their website. For those interested in reading both the FactCheck claims and the FairTax responses, the document is freely available at the following link:

Folks, this Periello has presented the character of the Democrat party by lying about the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax will remove all the production tax built into the cost of products made in America and will give you your gross pay as well as a prebate on the up to poverty level to everyone of 23%. This will remove the tax from the wholesale cost of products made in America so we can compete in the USA with an explosion of manufacturing jobs which will create all kinds of jobs, by putting the consumption tax on all new products sold including the imports we are competing with.
The democrats want to make you dependent on governmnet so they can be the elite under socialism and they will steal elecitons by lying and cheating. Example is when the Big Government politicians wanted to push the bailout plan through, what did the democrats demand for their vote? They wanted and would have gotten 20 billion dollars for ACORN! If you vote for any democrat for Federal office, you are a fool. That includes voting for the person we just got done vetting, and found that though not one record of Obama is available, his associations and alliances tell us why Obama is hiding his past. He is a radical Marxist who is so inside their camp that he had the press secretary of the late Yahsir Arifat as his baby sitter, Khalibi. If you elect Obama, you have nominated our enemy.

Perrillo is a freakin’ lightweight trying to make it in a man’s world. I say send his behind back to Darfur and Afghanistan where he can “overthrow” some more warlords.

The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, and gives a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level for their size household.
