Although the museum is the site of Friday’s debate, the building is not set to open to the public until Nov. 8. But tonight, ten on your side photojournalist Jeff Perzan gives us a look inside.

If you’re driving in downtown Roanoke Friday afternoon there are some traffic changes around the new art museum you should be aware of.

The staff of the ‘Taubman Museum of Art’ can move into their new building.  The are presented with a temporary “certificate of occupancy”.

The boxing up is already underway at the Art Museum of Western Virginia. It’s a tedious process, as as each piece of artwork from small to large prepares to make the move across Market Square.

The Art Museum will close its doors at its current facility after asking the community to share their memories and wishes for the new Taubman Museum of Art in an interactive exhibition that opens to the public Friday April 4th

The soaring peaks, rounded walls, and incredible overhangs that fascinate us from the outside, only grow on the inside of the new Taubman Art Museum.

In six months Roanoke’s new $66 million Taubman Museum for Art will open. Thousands of tourists will pour into the downtown streets many getting their first look at the Star City.

It proudly rises from the ground in downtown Roanoke transforming the Star City’s skyline. And now there’s a transformation for its name. It’s no long the Art Museum of Western Virginia. Instead, it will now bear the name of Jenny and Nicholas Taubman.

We’ve been talking a lot about momentum lately and it’s been in a political context. Today, we saw momentum in a different venue: art.
