VMI cadets talk about marching at inauguration

He’s the Roanoke County Clerk of Circuit Court, but Tuesday he took the day off to watch Barack Obama become president along with three million other people.

Hundreds took some time out Tuesday and flocked to the Lyric Theater to watch President Obama’s Oath of Office.

At the Harrison Museum of African American Culture, men and women got together to watch the Presidential Inauguration. They took part in all aspects of the ceremony, from reciting the oath, to praying and singing.

Sixth graders at Roanoke’s Stonewall Jackson Middle School wrote letters to Mr. Obama Tuesday morning for an English class assignment.

Many people in the United States thought they may never see an African American be elected as President. Perhaps no one more than those who lived during a time when our country was segregated.

More than one hundred students and community members of all ages and races gathered there to watch history unfold before their eyes.
