Virginia Tech cycling team to host “Tech Cross”

The Virginia Tech Cycling Team hosts the third annual Tech Cross cyclocross competition. The two day event is part of the Virginia Cyclocross Series. ‘Cyclocross’ is typically a fall or winter bicycling sport contested on a mostly off-road course including obstacles that may force riders to dismount. This is the third year running that the cycling team has hosted this unique bike race.

The competition will begin at 5p.m. on Saturday, November 7 and 10a.m. on Sunday, November 8 at the Virginia Tech Upper Recreational Sports Fields. The Saturday night races will have an especially exciting atmosphere under the lights and changes will be made to the course prior to Sunday’s race to add to the challenge. Both days will consist of collegiate and non-collegiate USA Cycling events. This event is open to Virginia Tech students, faculty/staff and the public. Come to participate in fun and intense races or just watch the exciting competition and support the Virginia Tech Cycling Team.

“The Virginia Tech Cycling Team continues to be a serious contender both regionally and nationally in collegiate races,” said Reid Beloni of Charlotte, NC, a fifth-year majoring in Human Nutrition Food & Exercise in the College of Science and former president of the cycling club. “The goal of the races is to create an enjoyably competitive environment, promote the cycling team and serve as a fundraiser for the team. This will be a great chance to see the team at its best while we fundraise for another successful season.”

Tech Cross will include nine USCF categories including masters, junior, women, three category men’s fields, and three collegiate only fields. Each race will range from 30 minutes to an hour in length. Pre-registration is available online. Onsite registration will be available for an additional $10.00 late fee, an hour before racing and closes 20 minutes before each field starts.
