Second-seeded Liberty avoided elimination with a 10-1 victory over No. 8 UNC Asheville in the Big South Conference tournament Thursday at Dan Daniel Park in Danville.

The Flames got a huge boost from former Tunstall High School standout Jeff Jefferson, who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Jefferson, who started in right field, boosted his season batting average from .225 to .255 with the strong effort in his homecoming.

Liberty advances to play the loser of today’s Radford/Winthrop game (7 p.m. start) on Friday at 11 a.m.
