James Madison University men’s basketball coach Matt Brady and JMU have been named in a civil lawsuit filed by Brady’s former employer, Marist College.

The suit alleges Brady breached his contract when he negotiated with JMU without written consent from Marist.

Marist also alleges Brady violated his contract when he contacted players he had been recruiting for the Poughkeepsie, New York school after taking the job with the Dukes.

Don Egle, director of public affairs at JMU said, “Historically the university has not publicly commented about matters involving litigation or pending litigation.

“The university strongly believes it would be inappropriate to provide any comments or statements at this point.“
