BEDFORD — Students’ achievements in sports were the focus of the Bedford County School Board at a regular meeting Thursday.

The board recognized both the Staunton River High School girls basketball and the Liberty High School boys basketball teams, which each made it to state-level tournaments.

For the first time in months, the quick meeting did not address the district’s 2009-10 school year budget, but that issue is expected to arise again in a coming meeting.

In a budget-related item, the board on Thursday voted to start accepting bids for fuel costs for the next school year.

“We’ve talked with our fuel supplier,” Superintendent James Blevins said, “and we feel right now we’re probably in a good situation to save some money if we go on and get the fuel.”
