District tournament week begins with upsets, close calls

  The Blue Ridge District Semifinals were probably closer than most expected…and the River Ridge semifinals were turned upside down. At Northside High school…Lord Botetourt got 23 points and 10 boards from Rick Alderman as the Cavaliers pulled away from host Northside for a ten point win, 56-46. Meanwhile William Byrd struggled with Alleghany until the final buzzer, edging the Mountaineers 48-45 to advance.
  In River Ridge boys action, Hidden Valley rocked Regular season champ Cave Spring 42-40, while runnerup Pulaski Co. was upset by Salem by a 62-49 count.
