Amherst tops state football poll

Amherst tops a Virginia Associated Press statewide poll for high school football Group AA teams.

Amherst received seven first place votes, will Broad Run received one.

The Salem spartans come in at #3, the Liberty minutemen at #7, the Christiansburg blue demons and Brookville bees are tied for 10th.

In Group A, Gretna is the only local school to make the top ten, coming in at #4.

No local teams made the top ten for Group AAA.
