The Washington Redskins announced on Thursday that Christiansburg High School football coach Tim Cromer has been named the Redskins High School Coach of the week for October 12th.

The Redskins program “is designed to recognize and reward excellence in high school football coaching,“ according to a news release.  There’s also a $1,000 cash donation from the NFL Youth Football fund for each coach chosen, that goes toward the coach’s football program.  Coach Cromer will also receive a framed certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Redskins head coach Jim Zorn.

Cromer has coached Christiansburg for the past eight years.  The Blue Demons are 6-1 this season so far, with their only loss coming last week to Hidden Valley.

Christiansburg hosts Salem this week in a battle for the top of the River Ridge District.

The Redskins say coach Cromer encourages his student athletes to excel on and off the field, including community service.

“I have had the opportunity to coach Tim in high school, have him serve as an assistant coach on my team and then watch him develop as a head coach.  He has always expected a lot of himself and the teams he has coached.  He does not lower his standards or expectations regardless of a situation.  The rules are the same for every player. He has always represented the Christiansburg community in a positive way as a player, student and coach” says Christiansburg High School Athletic Director Kirk Litton. in the news release.
