Week 2 Post game notes
A few quick thoughts from this week’s games:
Blacksburg 23, Giles 8
Bruins:Very impressive effort from the Bruins. I’ve heard they might be really, really good this year. It’s early, but so far the Bruins are living up to the hype.
Giles: The Spartans join Amherst County last week with disappointing losses for first year coaches. From a purely coaching or athletic director perspective, the Bruins should win a lot of games this year, which will help Giles later on in VHSL points.
Patrick County 34, Carroll County 0
Cougars Really impressive win for Patrick County. This is a team that made a lot of noise last year and looks to have an even better season in 2008.
William Byrd 21, Hidden Valley 20
Boy did this game live up to the billing, huh? It goes to show how important special teams and kicking are in high school football (Titans lost by one point, a PAT).
Salem 42, Lord Botetourt 20
Spartans: Salem had a case of the butterfingers, turning it over a pair of times. What is it about this team that they’re always about to execute a big third down pass?
Cavaliers: This game was a little more competitive than the score indicates. District foes will have their hands full. Remember, even if the Cavs Region didn’t have the extended playoff format last season, LB *still* would’ve made the playoffs.
Bassett 46, Patrick Henry 7
All I’ve got to say about this game is WOW! Boo Woods is candidate for player of the year.
Also:
Amherst County looked a tad better this week didn’t they? Amherst 42, Charlottesville 6.
Cave Spring is 2-0!
Narrows beat East Mont 26-20 in 4 OT’s!
