Jefferson Forest enjoying playoff run

Jefferson Forest has waited, nearly a decade for their chance.  The chance to shine in football’s postseason.  That time is now.

The Cavs dominated visiting Rockbridge County 35-0 to move into the semifinals of Region III Division 4.  It was a victory that left their coach proud of his ten man senior class.

Coach Don Rice explained that it’s not his biggest senior class ever, but what they lack in quantity they make up in quality.  Rice says all ten start, and many have started for multiple years.  They have shown the leadership needed in this playoff year.

Meanwhile, the Cavs’ schedule has been nothing short of silly.  JF stands at 8-3, with those losses to three of the top AA teams in the state: Brookville, Amherst, and Pulaski County.  The schedule has Rice’s team ready for anyone.

This Friday they’ll travel to Turner Ashby, and try and continue to make up for nearly a decade’s absence from the playoffs.

The Cavs are led by tailbacks Desmond Goode, and Rashad Hall, who have combined for more than 2,000 yards rushing.

The formula for victory should sound familiar to Roanoke football fans.  Coach explains he was coached by the legendary coach Jim Hickam at Northside High School in Roanoke County, so ball control and defense will always be the backbone of his squads.
