Heritage High School soccer player receives national honor
Published: February 6, 2009
Heritage High School senior Monica Li is being recognized by the National Football Foundation as January’s national Play It Smart Student Athlete of the Month. This news comes out at the end of each month which is why the January award is being announced now. This is a great honor for Monica.
One student athlete is picked out of hundreds of students nominated from 160 high schools across the country. Monica will be featured on the National Football Foundation’s website and will receive a plaque from them as well.
Monica was nominated by her Play It Smart coach because of her success as both a student and athlete. She maintains a 4.3 GPA, is a soccer team captain and is a talented graphic artist whose work has been recognized statewide. Next year Monica hopes to attend a four year university.
The Play It Smart program has been in the Lynchburg City School Division for less than a year so this award is an honor not only for Monica, but for the school as a whole.
