WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Lynchburg built a 9-0 lead in the first three innings, then added three more runs in the eighth inning to seal a 12-6 win over Winston-Salem on Friday.
Chase d’Arnaud had a grand slam in the third inning for the Hillcats (4-9) and Matt Hague smacked a two-run shot in the eighth. Alex Presley, Jordy Mercer and Jose De Los Santos all had an RBI as the Hill-cats hung 15 hits on four Dash pitchers.
Winston-Salem, the first-half Southern Division champs, fought back in the middle innings and cut Lynchburg’s lead to three runs. But the trio of Harrison Bishop, Chris Cullen and Harvey Garcia allowed just one hit over the next three innings, giving the win to starter Matt McSwain.
The two team are back in action tonight. Game time is 7 p.m.
