Martinsville moving forward with Mustangs 2010 season

Martinsville says the Mustangs will play ball in 2010.
The city is moving forward with plans for the team’s sixth season. Those plans include recruiting players, re-evaluating management procedures, and either hiring a new general manager or possibly partnering with a public or private group, according to a news release.
“The most important message we want to convey is that the Mustangs will play ball in 2010. Head Coach Barry Powell and his entire support staff are committed for next season and we have every intention of assembling a team and moving forward with a viable management strategy for the upcoming season,” said Assistant City Manager Leon Towarnicki in the release.
“We want to make absolutely certain that the Mustangs have every opportunity to succeed and to do so in a manner that is beneficial for the city, the team, the residents of Martinsville, and the many loyal Mustangs fans who attend games at Hooker Field. As soon as possible we will issue a request for proposals (RFP) in a formal process through the City’s Purchasing Department. We will explain more thoroughly what the City is looking for in a management partner should we decide to go this route,” said City Manager Clarence Monday in the release.
“The City is committed to baseball for the 2010 Coastal Plain League season. We will move forward with a revamped strategy and do everything within our power to ensure that next year’s team has all of the tools it needs to be successful,” said Towarnicki in the release.
