The Salem Red Sox have the home field advantage Thursday night as they take on Lynchburg in game 3 of the Carolina League Championship Series.

After Tuesday’s loss, the Red Sox found themselves down 2-0 in the 5 game series.

Whether they win or lose, this season has been a great one for the Red Sox organization in Salem.  From the beginning of the season, you could tell things were different.  Red Sox nation was taking over in Salem.

“Really exciting to see tons of Red Sox gear all over the place”, said General Manager John Katz.

Red Sox Manager, Chad Epperly, also saw the excitement, “The fans have embraced us with open arms.  I hope we have given back to the community with appearances and put a good product on the field for them to cheer for,“ Epperly said.

Finishing second to Winston-Salem in the first half of the season, the Red Sox were determined to make the playoffs with a second half surge.  They now find themselves fighting for a Carolina League title.

The team has also been successful on the business side of things. “From a merchandise standpoint, food and beverage, even ticket sales, everything has been terrific. That would not be possible without the hard work of the staff and support of the community,“ said Katz.

While things are looking great from an organizational standpoint, the city has been equally excited about the change.

“We are thought of as the championship city.  If the Red Sox win the next three games, they would be the next champions crowned in Salem.  It would be even more special, because they would win it here in Salem,“ said Carey Harveycutter, Director of Civic Facilities in Salem.

If Salem wins Thursday night, game 4 will be Friday night in Salem.
