REDSKINS CAMP: Off-season Defensive focus shows promise in camp

From their big off-season signings, to their first round draft pick, it’s clear the Redskins felt they needed more help for a defense that was already pretty good.

Step #1: Improve the pass rush.  Daniel Snyder opened his checkbook and signed free-agent defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth.

Step #2: Improve passing defense.  The Redskins inked former Virginia Tech defensive back DeAngelo Hall to a long-term deal, after picking up the former Raiders corner mid-way through the 2008 season.

Step #3: Build for the future.  The Skins’ chose Texas defensive star Brian Orakpo with their first round pick in the NFL draft.

I talked with head coach Jim Zorn, midde linebacker London Fletcher, and rookie Brian Orakpo about the state of the defense.
