Chip Sullivan of Ashley Plantation posted and second straight subpar round to share the lead entering weekend play at the 2008 SunTrust State Open of Virginia at Independence Golf Club (7,127 yards, par 36-36—72).
Amateur Roger Newsom of Virginia Beach and Sullivan are at 7-under 137 for the championship. Newsom shot a 2-under 70 in round two, while Sullivan had 4-under 68 on the second day. Five players are three back at 4-under 140, including first round leader and 2005 SunTrust State Open of Virginia winner Ted Brown of Richmond and amateur Tony Good (Glen Allen), who followed his opening-round 67 with 73 on Friday.
Sullivan is the only competitor to post two rounds in the 60s the first two days after opening with 3-under 69 on Thursday.
