WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) - The Greenbrier is giving its Old White Course a facelift to improve play for the PGA’s newest tournament.
The $6 million Greenbrier Classic represents the first large-scale event at the four-star resort since the U.S. women beat Europe in the 1994 Solheim Cup.
To get the Old White Course ready, The Greenbrier is making several modifications to improve turf quality, create new tees, narrow fairways and add bunkers.
The course also will be lengthened to more than 7,000 yards. Practice tees and putting greens also are being upgraded.
The southeastern West Virginia resort will host the tournament for the next six years. The inaugural tournament will be played next July 29 to Aug. 1.
