Winter Tubing

»  Comments | Post a Comment

If you’re not so handy at downhill skiing (ahem, such as ourselves), there’s a nice little sport out there called tubing.  Which is basically like sledding and so much fun.

Plus, tubing often takes the work out of sledding – where you have to trudge up the hill. Most tubing areas offer conveyor lifts or rope tows. How sweet is that?

Find out more about where you can go tubing at these Virginia ski resorts:

Wintergreen

Take a ride down The Plunge, Wintegreen's tubing park featuring eight lanes for tubing where riders can reach up to 30 mph. A conveyor lift brings you and your tube back up the hill. The Plunge is recommended for ages 6 and up. $20 to $28 per two-hour session.

For kids ages 3 and up, Ridgeley's Fun Park offers a mini-tubing carousel, bear paw snow shoes, tunnels, plus a gentle hill for tubing. Check out the tee-pee to warm up with s'mores and hot chocolate. $15 for one child and adult, $10 per additional child.

Massanutten

Grab a tube and hit the 900-foot hill at Massanutten's tube park, the first tubing park in Virginia which opened in 1998. The "Wonder Carpet" will scoop you back to the top. Children must be at least 36 inches tall to tube and only one person is allowed in a tube. Tickets sold for two-hour sessions. $20 during the week, $24 on the weekends.

The Homestead

All the fun of sledding, without the work of walking back up the hill. Two lanes of tubing for kids and adults. $15 to $19 per hour.

Bryce Resort

Bryce’s family friendly ski resort located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley offers Ridge Runner's Tubing Park, three lanes of tubing and a tow lift to bring tubers back to the top. Children must be 4 and 1/2 years old to ride. $19 to $22 per two-hour session.

Snowflex Center

A brand-new year round ski slope in Lynchburg, Virginia that uses synthetic snow and offers tubing year round.

The Snowflex Center is located on top of Liberty University’s 5,000-acre mountain. It offers skiing, snowboarding and tubing year round. $5 tubing rental. $5-7 extra per hour.

Ski Cove

Ski Cove is one giant tubing hill located near Winchester, Va.  Tubes shoot down their 900-foot long hill at rocket speed. A rope tow will bring you back up to the top. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Call for pricing 540-858-2882.
