Region Championship Friday pre-game notes:

Clarke County at Gretna, 7 PM KICK, Highlights 11:15 PM: Gretna looks to win another Region Championship. Clarke County provides a test, but not a particularly difficult one.

Salem at Pulaski County, 7:30 KICK, Highlights & Analysis 11:15 PM: Pulaski County won by 10 in Week 12. Salem led at halftime by 10. Spartans will have to at least contain Nubian Peake. How will the cold weather effect the Cougars passing game, if at all? Salem will likely look to ball control to keep Peake playing defense or on the sidelines.

Jefferson Forest at Amherst County 7:30 KICK, Highlights 11:15 PM: Cavs were one of the few teams to win on the road last week, but Lancers handled them pretty well in the first match up. Cold weather will be perfect for Amherst's run-first Wing-T. Forest will have to play physical to have a chance.

Robert E. Lee at Brookville 7:30 KICK, Highlights & Analysis 11:15 PM: This is the one everybody watching Region III, Division 3 has been waiting for. Fighting Leemen will have the speed to stay in the game. Question is will they have the physicality? Bees running game will be the toughest test Lee has faced this season defensively.

Chilhowie at Floyd County - Postpned to Saturday at 1:00 p.m.: It's going to be COLD in Floyd! Buffaloes will have to prove to some that even a somewhat pass offense can win a region championship. Chilhowie has not faced a team near Floyd's caliber all season. Buffs will look to physical defense to provide good field position for offense.

Buffalo Gap at William Campbell 7 PM KICK, Highlights 11:15 PM: Buffalo Gap beat the Generals in the region title game last year, but that was up the road at their place. Generals speed versus Buffalo Gap's defensive discipline.

Bath County at Holston 7:30 PM KICK, Highlights 11:15 PM: Both these teams are pretty used to the cold weather, so this is one game where it probably won't be much of a factor. Bath's 3-5 defense tends to confuse teams the first time they see it.

George Washington at Liberty (Bealeton) 7:30 KICK, Highlights 11:15 PM: This will be a near three hour trip for GW-Danville against a team that eliminated the #2 seed William Fleming last week. Liberty is one of the few #3 seeds in the entire commonwealth hosting a game this week.
