BLACKSBURG - Former Virginia Tech point guard Hank Thorns is transferring to Texas Christian University.

The 5-9 Thorns, from Las Vegas, played two seasons at Tech but announced in May that he was leaving. He said he wanted to play at a school that would allow him to have "a greater role."

Thorns averaged 20.1 minutes, 3.7 points and 2.8 assists during his time in Blacksburg. He must sit out this season under NCAA transfer rules and then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"Hank possesses a lot of qualities that we look for in our point guards," TCU coach Jim Christian said in a statement. "He is very quick, sees the floor well, and provides outstanding leadership." - Darryl Slater
