Virginia Tech’s 2010 football recruiting class is now up to 17 commitments. The latest came from Chase Williams, a 6-3, 235-pound linebacker from Loudoun County High in Leesburg.
Recruiting Web site Rivals.com ranks Williams as the 10th-best inside linebacker in his class. He also had scholarship offers from West Virginia, Marshall, New Mexico State, Rice, Southern Methodist, Miami and Tulane, according to Rivals. Williams’ father is Gregg Williams, the former defensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins, who now holds that position with the New Orleans Saints.
The Hokies have also received a commitment from E.L. Smiling, a 6-4, 185-pound wide receiver from Brooke Point High in Stafford.
Tech now has 11 commitments from the state of Virginia. Recruits cannot sign letters of intent with schools until Feb. 3.
