Landry sits another game

Another week, another injury, another missed game for Washington Redskins' LaRon Landry. This time, a strained left groin will keep him out of Sunday's game against the New York Jets.

"It seems like I'm snake bitten, one injury after another," he said Friday. "So that's how it's been for me this season."

Coach Mike Shanahan ruled Landry out after he sat out all three practices this week. It will be the fourth game Landry has missed due to injury this season.

He sat out the first two games because of a strained hamstring. His ailing left Achilles tendon flared up and kept him out of the Dallas game two weeks ago.

Landry's left leg got caught under a lineman during a block last Sunday against Seattle, and he strained his groin when he tried to pull away.

"I know it really tore him up," Shanahan said. "He was hoping that he would be able to go, but it was a little bit too sore."

Landry's contract expires at the end of this season, and his recurring injury problems complicate his outlook with the franchise. The sixth overall pick in 2007 missed the final seven games last season due to microtears in his Achilles. That lingered into this season.

"Everything that you do both in-season, out-of-season, injuries — it's all part of the process when you're putting a team together," Shanahan said.

Landry isn't conceding the rest of the season, though. Sitting out the Dallas game calmed his Achilles, and his absence this week should, too.

Moving Kerrigan around

Rookie Ryan Kerrigan flashed back to college on a third-quarter play against Seattle. On third-and-3 at the Redskins' 33, Brian Orakpo and Rob Jackson split out as outside linebackers while Kerrigan lined up as a defensive tackle.

It was the first time this season the Redskins have used that alignment.

"I played a little bit of 3-technique in college at times in pass rushing situations, so it's kind of cool to do that again," said the Purdue product. "It's a nice little change up."

Kerrigan was double-teamed by the Seahawks' right tackle and right guard, while the running back picked up Orakpo off the left edge.

Seattle's pass was incomplete.

Receiver Niles Paul is listed as probable for Sunday's game after missing the last three with a sprained big toe. He fully participated in Friday's practice. … Fullback Darrel Young passed a baseline concussion test, Shanahan said. Young is listed as questionable. …Defensive end Stephen Bowen (left knee), receiver Terrence Austin (hamstring) and linebacker London Fletcher (ankle) are listed as questionable. ... Rookie receiver Leonard Hankerson will not have surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left hip at this time, Shanahan said. Doctors are going to see if it heals on its own. Bowen was fined $15,000 for spearing Seattle quarterback Tarvaris Jackson on the Seahawks' final offensive play last Sunday, the NFL said. Bowen was not penalized on the play. … Running back Roy Helu was fined $7,500 for a chop block. The NFL did not fine Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson (Varina) for stomping on DeAngelo Hall.
