This season was a tough one for our FedEx team, but I'm proud that my guys never gave up, and we were able to get a good top-10 finish to end the year.
We could never get our car right where we needed it during the race at Homestead-Miami, but got it pretty decent at the end. It was a little too tight when the sun was out, and got pretty free once the track temperature dropped. We never got the track position we needed to challenge for the win, but finished ninth, right where we were running most of the day.
What a championship battle between Tony (Stewart) and Carl (Edwards). I didn't think there was a chance Tony would be able to beat Carl at Homestead, because the 99 (Edwards) is just so strong there. What Tony was able to do, coming from the back twice and winning the race, was incredible.
I'm happy for Tony and his team. They won five races in the Chase and got the momentum on their side exactly when they needed it. He's a great champion and one of the best out there.
We just didn't have the speed in our cars this year like last year. After winning eight races in 2010, we knew other teams were going to work hard on their programs. But I thought we would compete for more wins and run up front. The only thing we can do is get back to work and get JGR back to the front.
I'm looking forward to the offseason. We have been going nonstop for 10 months, and it'll be nice to spend some time away. Most of my family is now in the Charlotte area, so we'll do Thanksgiving at my house before the NASCAR banquet in Las Vegas next week. After that, I'll get the chance to take some time off and recharge.
NASCAR has such a short offseason, and we'll be testing at Daytona early in January. The Daytona 500 is just three months away.
I want to thank all my fans for their support throughout the years. Thank you for following along during the Chase. Look for the No. 11 FedEx Toyota in victory lane in 2012.
Happy holidays.
